Who is Queen Narriman?

Queen Nariman Sadek (1933–2005), also known as Princess Nariman, was the second wife of King Farouk I and the last Queen of Egypt before the monarchy was abolished. Born into a middle-class family in Cairo, Nariman’s beauty and charm caught the attention of the king, who was seeking a new wife after his divorce from Queen Farida. In 1951, at the age of 17, she married King Farouk in a grand ceremony, becoming Queen and a popular figure among Egyptians.

Nariman’s marriage was marked by intense public interest, especially due to her non-royal origins and the hope that she would bear a male heir. In January 1952, she gave birth to Crown Prince Ahmed Fouad, fulfilling Farouk’s wish. However, their marriage was strained by Farouk's political struggles, extravagant lifestyle, and Egypt’s volatile political climate.

Following the 1952 Revolution, Farouk was forced to abdicate, and the family went into exile in Italy. Nariman and Farouk’s marriage ended in divorce in 1954, and she returned to Egypt, where she led a quiet life away from the spotlight, marrying twice more.

Queen Nariman passed away in Cairo in 2005, remembered as the last queen of Egypt and a symbol of a transformative period in Egyptian history.
