Who is Prince Ahmed Fouad?

Prince Ahmed Fouad (born 1952), known as King Ahmed Fouad II, was the last monarch of Egypt, though his reign was purely nominal. He was born to King Farouk I and Queen Nariman on January 16, 1952, in Cairo. Just months later, in July 1952, the Egyptian Revolution forced his father to abdicate in his favor, making Ahmed Fouad king at the age of six months. However, the monarchy was officially abolished in June 1953, and Egypt became a republic.

After the royal family went into exile, Prince Ahmed Fouad was raised in Italy and later educated in Switzerland, attending prestigious institutions. Although disconnected from Egyptian politics, he has remained a symbolic figure for those interested in Egypt’s royal history.

In 1976, he married Dominique-France Picard, who became Princess Fadila of Egypt after converting to Islam. They had three children, including a son, Prince Muhammad Ali. However, the couple later divorced. Prince Ahmed Fouad has lived a largely private life, primarily in Switzerland and France, far from the public eye.

Though his reign was only symbolic, Prince Ahmed Fouad remains the last link to Egypt’s royal era, representing the end of a monarchy that once held significant influence in the region.
